
Faleke made the declaration in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday.
The federal lawmaker urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his supporters in Ikeja Federal Constituency and across Lagos State to rally support for Hamzat as the party prepares for its governorship primaries next month.
“Good evening all. As we prepare for Party primaries next month, I urge all our supporters in Ikeja Federal Constituency and Lagos State to support Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as the next Governor of Lagos State from 2027–2035 IJN. Amen!” Faleke wrote.
The endorsement comes amid reports that the APC leadership is considering at consensus arrangement that could see Hamzat emerge as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Lagos State.
According to sources, the move forms part of broader consultations among party stakeholders in the South-West ahead of the next election cycle.
Party insiders also disclosed that stakeholders are considering other candidates for key positions across the region.
Among them is the senator representing Ogun West and Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, who is reportedly being favoured for the Ogun State governorship race.
Similarly, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District, is said to be gaining support among party stakeholders for the Oyo State governorship contest.
The reported consensus choices are said to have emerged from a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and APC stakeholders from Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states, which was held in Lagos on March 23.
Sources familiar with the meeting told The PUNCH that the gathering involved extensive discussions on party strategy and candidate selection ahead of the next general elections.
“The choices of Hamzat, Yayi, and Alli were arrived at after a prolonged discussion with the President, taking into account the collective opinions of those present and the popularity of the candidates in their respective states,” the source said.
Among those who reportedly attended the meeting were the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; and Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji.
Others present included the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Zaccheaus Adedeji, along with several other top party stakeholders.
